The Tom Cunningham Band plays a mix of Americana music with Bluegrass, Western Swing and Country and Folk influences. Fiddler, guitarist and mandolin player Tom Cunningham fronts the band and provides most of the lead vocals.
The music ranges from popular classics like “Gentle On My Mind” and “The Boxer” to Bluegrass classics like “Foggy Mountain Breakdown” and “Freight Train Boogie” or maybe an old 60s song or two done with an acoustic string band sound and feel. You can expect some Country classics and Bluegrass Gospel songs in the mix as well. Throw in a fiddle tune and banjo number now and then and there you have it.
TCB has been together for many years in many forms! The latest member, bassist Gene Libbea joined a few years ago. Tom was quick to grab him after finding out he had relocated to Southern California. “Here’s this bass player from one of my all time favorite bands, The Nashville Bluegrass Band and I get to have him in my band! Thrilled to say the least!” …..TC
Gene was a member of The Nashville Bluegrass Band for 12 years. During that time he notched five Grammy nominations and two Grammys. He has recorded with Johnny Cash, Vince Gill, Earl Scruggs, Steve Earl, Ry Cooder and Clint Black just to name a few.
Tom has a stable of fine musicians that play with the band depending on the gig, the size of the band may be a trio or six piece group.
